HOW WE BUILT THE CREASE
It didn’t start in a boardroom. It started in the stands.
Our story began at a local hockey game. We were surrounded by the families of the players on the ice—people who breathed the game and welcomed us into the fold. My son was mesmerized. He looked at me and said he wanted to play. There was only one problem: he didn't even know how to skate.
The Grind
In mid-November, we hit the ice. It started with just a father teaching his son how to stand on blades. We ground it out, shift after shift. By February, he was enrolled in the "First Shift" hockey program, getting faster, sharper, and hungrier.
The Audition
By June, the real test arrived: auditions for the U12 Jets. The tension on the drive to the rink was heavy. He needed to get his head right before stepping onto that frozen battleground. I needed to motivate him.
The Catalyst
He stepped onto the ice, proved his worth to the coaches, and made the team. But it was exactly what I told him in the car before the tryouts that sparked an absolute obsession.
I looked at him and said:
"LISTEN. LET'S SCRAPE
SOME ICE."
The moment the words left my mouth, it clicked. It wasn't just a pep talk; it was a mentality. I realized right then—that’s a damn good slogan for a shirt. I opened Photoshop and started designing. One concept turned into a collection of raw, aggressive, ink-driven designs.
We looked around and realized something was missing. Basketball has Jordan. Skateboarding has Vans. But what did hockey have? Nothing but cheap, cartoonish team merchandise. BLACK CREASE was born to fill that void.
